Enugu — Federal Commissioner representing Enugu State in the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Hon. Peter Ogbonna Eze, has congratulated the 17 newly elected Local Government Chairmen and 260 Councillors in Enugu State following the conclusion of the state’s Local Government elections.
Eze, in a congratulatory message, particularly celebrated the emergence of the Igbo-Eze North Local Government Chairman-elect, Hon. Chris Onyekachi Simon, popularly known as DonChris, and his Deputy, Hon. Abah Joseph Idenyi.
He described their victories as significant milestones and said their emergence reflected the confidence reposed in them by the people, while stressing that their mandate comes with a responsibility to provide accountable, inclusive and people-oriented leadership at the grassroots.
According to him, the election represents an opportunity for the newly elected council leaders to translate their mandates into tangible development across their respective Local Government Areas.
Eze also congratulated the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for what he described as providing the leadership and direction that culminated in the emergence of the new leadership across the state’s 17 Local Government Areas.
He commended the Governor for his commitment to strengthening grassroots administration and ensuring that capable hands are entrusted with leadership at the local government level.
The FCC Commissioner also commended the people of Enugu State for their peaceful participation in the electoral process and for exercising their civic responsibilities.
He extended his appreciation to the relevant electoral authorities, security agencies, political parties, candidates, observers and other stakeholders for their contributions towards the conduct of the election.
Eze urged the newly elected council leaders to regard their victories not merely as political achievements but as a call to service and an opportunity to deliver meaningful and sustainable development to their respective communities.
He identified community development, basic infrastructure, youth and women empowerment, education, healthcare, security and environmental sanitation as some of the areas that should receive priority attention under the new administrations.
He further urged the elected officials to justify the confidence reposed in them by the electorate through transparency, accountability, inclusiveness and responsible governance.
Eze, while congratulating the newly elected Chairmen and Councillors, expressed particular goodwill to his “dear senior brother,” Hon. Chris Onyekachi Simon, his deputy and close friend, Hon. Abah Joseph Idenyi, wishing them successful and impactful tenures in office.
He concluded with a message to the newly elected council leaders: “The real work begins now.”
